Lieve founder,

Overdag draai ik beslag. 's Avonds draai ik schroeven. Zo ongeveer ziet mijn leven eruit op dit moment, en eerlijk gezegd zou ik het voor geen goud willen ruilen. De accuboor is inmiddels een verlengstuk van mijn arm geworden.

Het Statenkwartier heeft ons binnengehaald

We zijn ontvangen alsof we er al jaren zitten. Buren die even langskomen, zich voorstellen, vragen wanneer de deur opengaat. Winkeliers die alvast aanbieden mee te denken. Er wordt oprecht uitgekeken naar de komst van CakeBear en dat voelt groot.

En tegelijk: de Boekhorststraat

Wat ik minder had zien aankomen, zijn de reacties uit onze eigen buurt. Mensen die binnenlopen om te zeggen dat ze ons gaan missen. Klanten die er vanaf de eerste week bij waren en er even stil van worden. Ik werd er zelf ook even stil van. In twee jaar tijd bouw je iets op zonder helemaal door te hebben wat het voor anderen betekent, tot je vertelt dat je verhuist.

Voor de duidelijkheid: we gaan niet weg bij de buurt, we gaan door in een groter huis. Maar deze reacties neem ik mee.

De verbouwing draait op familie en vriendschap

Overdag staat de Boekhorststraat gewoon open, want de winkel gaat door. 's Avonds staan we op de nieuwe locatie met familie en vrienden die kwamen helpen zonder dat ik erom hoefde te vragen. Dat is misschien wel het mooiste onderdeel van dit hele traject.

Wat er tot nu toe staat:

Volledig geverfd
Water en afvoer aangelegd
Nieuwe bakkerijvloer gelegd
Eerste deel van de achterbalie gerealiseerd
De aparte baristabar staat
Het coffee menu hangt
Eerste in store branding is geplaatst, met het logo op de meterkast

De baristabar heeft zijn plek gevonden. Nu zijn we hard bezig met het bewerken van het blad en het afwerken van de zijdes.

Extra shoutout naar de twee toppers die het water hebben weten te verplaatsen en veilig hebben aangesloten. Een oud pand, daar erf je wel eens bijzondere situaties bij. Stabiel opgelost, en daar ben ik erg blij mee.

Onderweg: de grotere vriezer. Grotere locatie, grotere vriezer, grote stap.

Vast in de agenda: de verhuizing op maandag 28 september, 08:00 uur.

Jullie zijn met meer dan ik dacht

Ik had gerekend op een handjevol founders. Mensen die zeggen: leuk, hier is mijn steun, succes ermee. Het werden er veel meer. Ik heb het lijstje meerdere keren opnieuw geteld omdat ik dacht dat ik ergens dubbel had gerekend.

Dat jullie geld en vertrouwen in dit avontuur stoppen terwijl er nog stof en verfrollers liggen, daar ben ik oprecht dankbaar voor. Het maakt korte nachten een stuk lichter.

Van bijna iedereen heb ik inmiddels de naam binnen die op de foundercard komt. Ontbreekt die van jou nog? Vandaag kan het nog ;)

De steun kwam in grotere aantallen binnen dan ik had durven hopen. Van de foundercards zijn er daardoor nog maar een paar over.

De planning

3 oktober: de deur van de Aert van der Goesstraat gaat open
24 oktober: de officiele opening staat vooralsnog gewoon. Direct na de verhuizing maak ik die planning concreet en hoor je er meer over

We zoeken barista's

Bij een aparte baristabar horen mensen die er met liefde achter staan. We zoeken barista's voor de nieuwe locatie. Iemand met gevoel voor koffie, voor gasten en voor de sfeer die we willen bouwen. Ervaring is mooi meegenomen, houding weegt zwaarder.

Dear founder,

By day I whisk batter. By night I drive screws. That is pretty much my life right now, and honestly I would trade it for nothing. The cordless drill has become an extension of my arm.

The Statenkwartier has welcomed us in

We have been received as if we had been there for years. Neighbours dropping by to introduce themselves and ask when the door opens. Shop owners offering to think along before we even asked. There is real anticipation for CakeBear arriving, and that feels big.

And at the same time: the Boekhorststraat

What I saw coming far less clearly were the reactions from our own street. People walking in to say they will miss us. Customers who were there from the very first week, going quiet for a moment. I went quiet too. In two years you build something without fully realising what it means to other people, until you tell them you are moving.

To be clear: we are staying close to this neighbourhood, we are continuing in a bigger house. But these reactions are coming with me.

The build runs on family and friendship

By day the Boekhorststraat stays open, because the shop keeps going. In the evening we are at the new location with family and friends who showed up to help without me having to ask. That may well be the most beautiful part of this whole journey.

What is standing so far:

Fully painted
Water supply and drainage installed
New bakery floor laid
First section of the back counter built
The separate barista bar is in place
The coffee menu is up
First in store branding is placed, with the logo on the meter cupboard

The barista bar has found its spot. We are now busy working the top and finishing the sides.

An extra shoutout to the two champions who managed to move the water line and connected it safely. In an old building you inherit the odd curious situation now and then. Solved and stable, and I am very happy about it.

On its way: the larger freezer. Bigger location, bigger freezer, big step.

Locked in the calendar: moving day on Monday 28 September, 08:00.

There are more of you than I expected

I had counted on a handful of founders. People who say: nice, here is my support, good luck with it. It turned out to be many more. I recounted the list several times because I was convinced I had counted someone twice.

That you put money and trust into this adventure while there is still dust and there are still paint rollers on the floor, I am sincerely grateful for that. It makes the short nights a good deal lighter.

I have received the name for the foundercard from almost everyone. Is yours still missing? Today it can still be done ;)

The support came in larger numbers than I had dared hope for. As a result, only a few foundercards are left.

The planning

3 October: the door at the Aert van der Goesstraat opens
24 October: the official opening still stands as planned. Right after the move I will firm up that schedule and you will hear more

We are looking for barista's

A separate barista bar calls for people who stand behind it with love. We are looking for barista's for the new location. Someone with a feel for coffee, for guests, and for the atmosphere we want to build. Experience is a welcome bonus, attitude weighs heavier.
